Our Take
We went to Tirana Albania for a month, and stayed right in the city in a really nice Airbnb. The host was great and had arranged for a taxi to be waiting at the bus station for or arrival. The city of Tirana is compact and walkable. The Taxis are cheap and efficient and do not try to rip you off, they are all metered. The people are unbelievably friendly and helpful, and all try to speak English. They do get a fair amount of tourists but Tirana does not seem overwhelmed. There are hundreds of affordable and downright cheap restaurants, cafes, and bars. We also met up with a very active Expat group and enjoyed their meetings. We went out to dinner separately with a few of the expats that we hit it off with.
We did not rent a car nor did we make it to the shore (it was HOT, in the middle of the summer). But we really had a great time, the only downside is the country’s lack of infrastructure, The garbage is a problem.
