Hi, I am Nicke Barefoot. My partner, Thomas “Fitz” Fitzgerald, and I have done some traveling in Europe in the past and have loved it. In 2022 we were traveling in Portugal and were denied our return to the USA because of a positive COVID test. We ended up staying for almost a month in Portugal, met a lot of wonderful people, enjoyed different parts of the country, and decided that we would move to Portugal as part of our retirement. We are both over 65 years old, but we have a lot of zest left in our lives.
2024 UPDATE:
The government of Portugal has changed its attitude about expats. They canceled their Golden visa program and canceled their Non-Habitual Tax Regime. This has made us reconsider Portugal as our European retirement location. We are now investigating other European Countries. Some we will consider are Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, and Greece, maybe more.
The purpose of this site is to offer our adventures both in travel as well as moving to Portugal Europe, and other places, to others that may be interested in the same.
We have travelled some parts of the world. Here, we will share our travel experiences with you in some videos and slideshows. These stories are only about the places that we went and are meant to remind us and our viewers (That’s You) what we enjoyed in each place.
Moving to Europe is in adventure in itself. Here, we will go in to detail about the process involved in moving. We picked Portugal for many reasons, which we will also explore in our stories. As shown above, we had to rule Portugal out due to recent changes, so we are still searching. There will be many “How To” stories, but that is not to say that these are the ONLY ways to do these things. These stories are about how we did them and the additional challenges we faced with being over 65 years old.
